∂AIL Professor Martin Ringle
↓Box 693↓Phillipsport, N.Y. 12769∞
Dear Professor Ringle:
Here is another copy of my paper and copies of two other
papers %2First order theories of individual concepts and propositions%1
and %2Circumscription ...%1. If they seem suitable for the publications
you are planning, I would be glad to here about it. They both require
some revision which can be done quickly.
As I mentioned, I have been asked to plan a study group on
philosophy and artificial intelligence for the Center for Advanced
Study in the Behavioral Sciences to be held in the academic year
1979-80. The Center is not yet committed to holding the study.
I want people with three kinds of interest: (1) philosophers
interested in applying ideas about artificial intelligence to
philosophical problems, (2) AI people interested in the philosophical,
especially epistemological, problems associated with giving programs
a general world-view, and (3) people interested in the formalization of
concepts like knowledge, intentions, goals, and hopes that arise
in the above endeavors. I would be grateful for your suggestions
as to participants. If you are interested yourself, please send
me a bibliography and names of references. You get to do it
all over again in connection with an official application later.
